How trips are inferred
Trips are inferred from changes in Bird’s public GBFS feed. Bird’s vehicle identifiers change frequently. Each poll is matched to the previous poll by vehicle type and location. An unmatched old location is counted as a trip start; an unmatched new location is counted as a trip end. Locations within 120 metres of a virtual station are assigned to that station.
These are estimates, not operator trip records. Maintenance, connectivity, feed gaps, and fleet changes can affect the totals. Large feed-wide ID changes are excluded automatically.
